Parade Information

You are invited to participate in the West Point Crab Carnival Parade on Saturday, October 1, 2011.  The parade which starts at 1 pm is open to everyone.  For civic organizations and clubs there is no fee to participate in the parade.  For businesses and political candidates there is a small entry fee of $25.00.

You may walk, march or enter the parade with a company truck, car or other means of transportation, except tractor-trailers.   We are unable to accomodate tractor-trailers at the West Point Crab Carnival Parade. For questions, please call the Chamber at 804.843-4620.

West Point Crab Carnival Parade Guidelines

1. For personal liability, and as a safety precaution, no entry or group will be allowed to throw or give candy along the parade route. If you do, you will be told to leave the parade immediately.

2. The West Point Crab Carnival Parade will be held on the first Saturday in October. The deadline for all entries will be September 15, 2011. No applications will be accepted after September 15.

3. Parade lineup for cars to be judged is 11:30; lineup for everyone else will be 12:00 on Kirby Street. The parade will start at 1:00 pm. *

4. Each entry will be assigned a lineup number one week before the parade. If you do not remain in your assigned spot, we reserve the right to remove your entry from the parade.

5. Business entries and political candidates will be charged an advertising fee of $25.00 for each entry in the parade.

6. School bands will be judged and awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. Each band is asked to play along the entire Main Street portion of the parade route.

7. Float requirements: No tractor-trailers. Each float is not to exceed 20 feet. All floats must be pulled by a vehicle or farm / lawn tractors. Each float must resemble those seen in homecoming or Christmas parades, etc.

8. Trophies and prizes will be awarded by the judges and their decision will be final.

9. All units are asked to keep moving during the parade. There should be no stopping unless directed by an official parade pacer.

10. Town officials and Grand Marshals will be asked to ride at the beginning of the parade and will be escorted back to the review stand to view the parade.

11. Each horse unit must provide someone to pick up the droppings from their horses.

12. The Parade Committee reserves the right to review all applications and refuse any entry we deem inappropriate.

13. It shall be unlawful and constitute a Class 3 Misdemeanor for any person to possess or bring into such area a pet, except for service animals. Pets will not be allowed to participate in the parade unless self contained before and after the parade. No pets will be allowed to walk along parade route unless in vehicle or on a float.
